Jace had quite the adventure this weekend.

Every year the wife and I, and a number of other people go to Hell’s Kitchen’s Ninth Avenue International Food Festival in Manhattan. If you are a foodie, you need to be here. If you enjoy arts and crafts, there’s room for you. And if you just like being outside with food, drinks and good music, come on down! Honestly there’s something here for just about anyone, just be prepared to walk. The festival stretches from 59th street all the way to 42nd. A few years ago, the festival would extend over to about 37th street.

To avoid any potential stroller issues, I decided to strap Jace on for the day. I wonder if I would’ve considered all the negatives (the heat, the people, the weight on my shoulders, walking for a long period of time, etc) of that day, would I have changed my mind. Looking back, though, I made a great decision.

Like any other event, Jace was the center of attention among our family, our friends, and the many random people who stopped to see Jace. He took it all very well and was a happy baby for the majority of the day. Anytime he showed signs of fussiness, it was either time for a bottle, a diaper change or he just wanted to be released from the carrier for a bit. It all worked out pretty well. Because of the heat and lack of coverage (clouds and trees), Jace got a nice little tan. Thankfully the wife made sure he had a hat to cover his face and head.

We didn’t leave until about 6 and you could see it on each of our faces. A day spent walking under the sun will surely exhaust anyone. When we finally arrived home, Jace didn’t even put up a fight and slept for about 4 hours straight! What a great day we all had.

Look at the determination on his face. Why is he this strong already?

A Non-Offensive look at Stay At Home Dads

Last week, for our 3rd anniversary, the wife, myself and Jace went to Riveria Maya, Mexico.

Wait, hold up, let me just get this out the way. *in Kanye West voice* Yo rest of the world, I’m really happy for you… I’ll let you finish, but Mexico has some of the best water of all time!

This was our first family vacation and at this point this might be the best vacation I’ve ever been on. From the food, to the people, to the desktop background worthy scenery… it was just immaculate.

I am still extremely impressed by my 5 month old son, Jace. He experienced several firsts on this vacation. This was Jace’s first time flying, being in a pool, being in the ocean, in another country, and last but not least eating solids (not the puree stuff, i’m talking cut pieces of fruit and chicken). He took everything like champ!

Another unexpected thing that happened while we were on vacation, was the amount of attention that our son received. You can see within the gallery above. A lot of people were just in awe of Jace. I mean I can’t really blame them, but I’m his parent. I never imagined other people to clamor to him like so. I kid you not, at one point during dinner, a old Hispanic women came over to Jace and kissed on the forehead, and oh this after feeding him an unsalted french fry that we left on the tray of his stroller. THIS REALLY HAPPENED AND WE WERE SHOCKED BY IT THAT ALL WE DID WAS SMILE!

I have no regrets! My family and friends that told us we should leave Jace because he may prove to be problematic, were all wrong!

The guys who fear becoming fathers don’t understand that fathering is not something perfect men do, but something that perfects the man. The end product of child raising is not the child but the parent.
